1. A Brother Like That

Some children were playing in the street in a not-very-well-to-do neighborhood, when a man drove up in a fancy fire engine red Lamborghini. He parked, got out of his car, and crossed the street to talk with an acquaintance.

Many of the children, afraid to go near the car for fear of being blamed if anything happened to it, took off or hid behind some trees. Daniel, however, had no sense of guilt whatsoever, and walked boldly up to the car and started looking it over from top to bottom. The more he looked, the more excited he became.

The man who owned the car noticed the kid, but didn't seem too concerned. Finally, finishing his conversation he walked back to his car. He stuck out his hand and said, "Hi, my name is Jim. What's yours?"

"Daniel," said the boy.

"You like my car, Daniel?" asked Jim.

"It's the neatest thing I've ever seen," exclaimed the boy.

"Well," said Jim, "a car on the outside is pretty, but let me show you some of the bells and whistles." He got into the car and began showing Daniel some of the features.

Daniel, getting more excited by the moment asked one question after another. Jim, obviously a patient man, answered each one in its turn. He seemed to like the kid, and took time to explain each feature Daniel asked about.

Finally Daniel asked, "Can I ask one more question?"

"Sure," said Jim, "what do you want to know?"

"How much did it cost?"

"Well, Daniel," said Jim, "I'd like to answer that but I don't know. You see, my brother bought me this car."

"Wow, your brother bought it for you?" Then he said, "Jim, I live right there, and, well, I've got a little brother. Can I show him your car?"
